RE: Dish HD DVR Launched and Priced at Rs. 2690
Quote:At present, Tata Sky +HD is available for Rs 5,990 (standard installation, one month subscription) for new customers and Rs 4,159 for existing Tata Sky subscribers. Similar service from Airtel Digital TV costs Rs 4,990 onwards. Viddeocon D2H’s HD DVR comes at Rs 4,490 (Rs 500 installation charges extra), while Reliance Digital TV charges Rs 4,890 for the service.

This is what Dish says, while making a comparison of Dish HD DVR, being priced at Rs. 2, 690 and others

Rs,2690 for DVR is very good price (comparing the price of other DTH). May be, this will put some pressure on others and chances are that there may be a price reduction from others too?? Let us wait and see.!!

RE: Dish HD DVR Launched and Priced at Rs. 2690
So, it means Rs.2690 is not for a new DVR STB, instead recording feature added on the existing HD STB by using a USB device and need a new Remote control to use the recording the functions..
As such why one should pay Rs.2690 ??

It is the price for new customers.
Existing HD customers need not pay anything. They will be upgraded to HD Plus free of cost

Okay got it. So, from the features explained, it looks like the recording/recording content will be stored on the ''USB device'' (and not the STB?). Does this mean that the same USB device can be removed from the STB and play elsewhere. If yes, then it will be great as at the moment other DVR's do not have the feature of copying the recorded contents or play it elsewhere other than the DVR STB itself.!!?

You can play contents recorded in Dish True HD+ in Dish True HD+ stb only. You can't play it in PC,media players etc. If they allow us to transfer recorded content to PC, the tv channels will sue them.

They might format USB devices and put some script to avoid piracy. When we connect that USB device to anything other than True HD+ STB, the recorded content will get automatically get deleted/hidden . I don't know whether they are going to do it but it is technically possible.
